A big thank you to our amazing school counselor, Mrs. Eliott, for organizing Red Ribbon week and spreading the message and importance of leading healthy, drug free lives. Monday was wear red,Tuesday rock star day, Wednesday wear pjs, Thursday camouflage day,and Friday dress as a book character. The students also signed a poster promising to be drug free.
Today the Fairbanks marching band performed for the students. They played several songs and encouraged the kids to participate by clapping, cheering, and just having fun. The band was great! Then, some of the staff did a flash mob performance to the song Thriller. The assembly wrapped up with all students, kindergarten through fifth grade, doing moves and gym exercises to the Whip and Nae Nae song! We had a blast!
We had a visit from a few local firefighters this week. They talked to the kids about having a plan to get out, a meeting place, how to feel a door if it is hot, and how to crawl low under the smoke. Also, one of the firefighters got dressed in his suit and gear and reminded them that he is friendly and there to help. We went into the smokehouse to practice crawling out under the smoke and running to the pole, which was our meeting place for the drill. One student was told to stay inside while we counted to make sure everyone was out. The kids realized one student was missing, but could not go back in, only the firefighters could!
Just wanted to share what we do with the letters, words, and pictures that the kids are bringing in for the letters we are focusing on each week. This is a picture of our Bb and Dd charts. The kids glue them in the correct section and we go over the charts at the end of the week. Thanks for helping your child look for and find things to bring in. Keep them coming!
